I know it may sound silly, but I’ve had the hardest time getting a good pair of tweezers recently, and the ones in this kit are far and away the best I’ve ever owned. Having said this, three tools that really caught my attention are the Blunt ESD Tweezers, the Angled ESD Tweezers, and the Nylon-Tipped Reverse Tweezers. Once again there’s an antistatic strap (you really can’t have too many of these, as I know to my cost), and there are all opening picks and tools of all shapes and sizes to pry your way into almost anything on the consumer electronics front.

The 64-Bit Driver Kit is held in the main tool roll magnetically, which is a nice touch because it’s easy to detach and reattach (it’s probably best to keep your credit cards away from the tool roll). This is a tad more expensive at $64.95, but - as the folks at iFixit say - “it contains all the poking, prying, gripping, lifting, ESD safety, and screw driving tools needed to service consumer electronics.” Well, how could a young lad like yours truly resist? I was tempted by this driver kit in its own right, but those little scamps at iFixit got me again in the same way that the 26-Bit Driver Kit forms part of their Essential Electronics Toolkit as discussed above, the 64-Bit Driver Kit forms part of their newly released Pro Tech Toolkit. Also, when you turn the lid over, you discover that it boasts a surprisingly useful integrated sorting/holding tray. The lid attaches to the base by means of small, powerful magnets in each corner. This means they don’t fall out when you bounce the case around, but they are easy to pull out when you need them. One thing I really like about this set is that all of the contents are firmly clasped in high-density foam. The bits themselves are made from 6150 steel, which is a fine grained, highly abrasion resistant carbon-chromium alloy steel with very good shock resistance and toughness properties. In addition to the main handle, there’s also a 150mm flexible extension that allows you to screw around corners. For example, consider iFixit’s 64-Bit Driver Kit, which is a pretty good deal at $29.95 as shown below. The thing about stuff like screwdrivers is that you really can never have enough of them. Thus far, I haven’t had any problems taking this through airport security, whose employees tend to be more concerned with the annoyingly random beeps being made by my Geiger counter. All of these tools squeeze into the iFixit pouch, which then slips snuggly into one of the side pockets of my Saddleback Leather backpack.

David Ashton recommended the smallest and cheapest multimeter I’ve seen thus far, and I added a pair of pliers and a pair of side cutters. Fortunately, there’s enough room in this pouch for a few more goodies.
